About Our Town:
Elizabethton, Tennessee was established in
1799 near the location of Fort Watauga, one
of the first settlements west of the
Appalachian Mountains and the gathering
site for the "Overmountain Men".  These
frontiersman marched into South Carolina in
1780 and defeated the British at King's
Mountain.  A battle considered by many to be
the turning point of the American Revolution.

Beauty abounds in Carter County, our little
valley in the mountains.  The Watauga and
Doe Rivers, both excellent trout streams,
meet in town.  Many smaller streams in the
area, abound in fish including the native
brook trout.  Boone Lake and Watauga Lake
are both nearby offering opportunities for
recreation and sight-seeing.  For those who
want to stay dry, the mountains are largely
National Forest land with many miles of the
Appalachian Trail available for an afternoon
walk or a weeklong hike.
Game abounds including: deer, bear, wild
turkeys and much more for the hunter or
nature enthusiast.

For the sports fan, we have a Minnesota
Twins affiliate minor league baseball team
which is celebrating its 35th year in
Elizabethton, Tennessee.  There are
numerous sports leagues for the youngsters.
Local high schools have varied programs,
regularly supplying colleges with talent.
When the leaves change and the nights get
cooler in the fall, Friday night high school
football is king.  For those interested in
seeing the game at a higher level, the
University of Tennessee Volunteers play 2
hours away in Knoxville and the Tennessee
Titans are in Nashville, about a 5 hour drive.

For the race fans, Bristol Motor Speedway is
about 15 miles from Elizabethton.  Home of
"The World's Fastest 1/2 mile Oval",
Northeast Tennessee is privileged to have
two Nascar Nationwide races as well as 2
Nascar Sprint Cup races each year.  Nascar
Craftsman Trucks also run at the track.  BMS
also has a dragway.  The track seats
160,000+ fans.
Come and visit our little slice of heaven.
Northeast Tennessee is a safe place to raise
your family and a wonderful area to retire to.
